New Year Test Schedules

posted Dec 27, 2014, 3:26 AM by A Pia   [ updated Apr 9, 2015, 1:59 AM ]

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year from all of us at the Brooklyn Tutor Co. As we begin a new year, we wanted to remind you about these upcoming test dates that can approach very quickly.

The New York State Regents are January 26-29, 2015. Living Environment, Global History, English, Physics,Chemistry, Geometry, US History, Earth Science, and Algebra2/Trigonometry. The full schedule is here: http://www.p12.nysed.gov/assessment/schedules/2015/regents115.pdf

SAT and SAT Subject Tests are offered nearly once a month. For Juniors in high school, it can be wise to take the test for the first time in March (March 14) before preparation for other finals, Advanced Placement,ACT, SAT Subject Tests, and other end of the year commitments distract. Most students take it once Junior year and once in the beginning of Senior year. No SAT Subject Tests can be taken in March. The full schedule as well as deadlines and registration can be found here: http://sat.collegeboard.org/register/sat-us-dates.

When to prepare for certain tests and dates - such as the SAT, Advanced Placement, and Regents

TACHS,SHSAT,HSPT, high school entrance exam upcoming test dates

posted Sep 1, 2014, 5:09 AM by A Pia   [ updated Apr 9, 2015, 2:00 AM ]

As we enter September, time is running out to prepare for the upcoming high school entrance exams.
The Specialized High School Admission Test (SHSAT - Stuyvesant, SI Tech, Brooklyn Tech, Bronx Science, La Guardia, etc) is October 25 and October 26, 2014.
The High School Placement Test (HSPT - Regis Admission Exam) will be hosted by Regis in NYC on November 2, 2014.
The Test for Admission to Catholic High Schools (TACHS) is November 7, 2014.
Secondary School Admission Test - (SSAT) is October 18, November 15, or December 13, 2014 and once a month thereafter.
Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) can be taken any day.
Exam dates for other grades and links that will update for future test dates here.

Many of the tests have significant overlap. All of the high school entrance exams rely heavily on Math, Reading Comprehension, and Reasoning. While the TACHS, HSPT, SSAT, ISEE stress vocabulary in their Verbal sections, the SHSAT forgoes vocabulary for unique sections such as Scrambled Paragraphs and Cryptology. The SHSAT Math section is also highly advanced and requires more algebra and mental math than the other high school entrance exams. The SSAT and ISEE both have an essay section which can challenge students. The TACHS includes some unique sections in Grammar, Spelling, and Abilities, which can be daunting if not prepared.

This is a pivotal time for your recently turned 8th grade student's future. Contact us if there is any way we can help.
Students often manage the material best when they know what they need to know. For this reason, we have prepared a Formula Sheet for these exams.
